i have a girl crush

...And, its on Zooey Deschanel!

I ventured back over to 815 7th street at the 930 club in Washington DC on a balmy 107 degree evening (not kidding, it was really 107 degrees around 8:30pm!!!!) and walked into a packed house at the concert venue. It was already smashed up to the back of the club and because I'm short seeing over people was already a struggle. We all waited anxiously for the Chapin Sisters to finish their set (who by the way are very talented ladies. Very folksy, very harmonic and not at all snooze worthy. I instantly fell in love with their Little House on the Prairie clothing and incredible voices). Around 930p She and Him made their way to the stage. She and Him consists of movie star Zooey Deschanel (Elf, the Happening and 500 Days of Summer - my personal fave) and M Ward, singer/songwriter extraordinaire.

First, she's tiny. Like, tinier than what you first would imagine. I wouldn't dare say she's a smidgen over 5'2. She's pixie'ish yet hipster with her black dress and has a hippy flair with her perfectly messy hair. Her voice belongs in the 50's, her lyrics belong in fairytale books or heartbroken emo poems. Either way, I was in love. To sum her up in a word: lovely. Had I not had a massive man in front of me to where I had to strain my neck to see even the littlest bit of her (and to remind you, there's not that much of her) I would have sat there all night listening to her. She's adorable and she can sing, what more could you ask for? oh yeah... M Ward. He's just the bomb. His soft as a feather vocals and amazing acoustic strumming make this man go to the top of my list of musicians. He's just downright talented.

I would have taken photo's for you but all camera's were banned from entering the 930 club. Kinda silly if you ask me. Why be on stage if you don't want your picture taken? I guess Hollywood will always be Hollywood even if you're a pint sized cutie dressed in your gramma's dress 90% of the time.
